Custom-Made Tuxedo

Sitting in Da Nang Airport as we wait for our flight to Taipei. We have spent twelve wonderful days in Vietnam with the last four nights staying at the Renaissance Hoi An Resort, where our suite had a beautiful view of the South China Sea. The beach and water were perfect.

Hoi An has an area called Ancient Town which is very walkable and has plenty of restaurants and bars. It is a port city with canals that is an UNESCO World Heritage Center. At sundown, the canal in the center of town comes alive with dozens of boats filled with lanterns and life-jacketed wearing tourists The town has a famous Japanese Covered Bridge with a Pagoda, but that is currently being renovated.

Hoi An is known for tailors and dressmakers, there are literally hundreds of them. I made the executive decision to get a custom-made tuxedo. After looking at a few different shops, we selected Chic Unique to make the tux. The entire process took two days – I was measured on Sunday, came back Monday for a fitting, and Tuesday after a slight alternation, my tuxedo was completed. This is the second tux I have owned. The first tux, I bought for my wedding and the first Clinton Inauguration, which took place ten days before our wedding. Unfortunately in the past 31 years, I became a little larger and the tux did not make the move with us to Rehoboth Beach. With two black tie weddings coming up, I look forward to wearing my new tux.

On Monday evening we found ourselves at The Shamrock Irish Pub where a band was playing which featured a wonderful young female singer. When Jane ran into the singer during a break and told her how much she enjoyed her voice, the singer (who sang in English without an accent) didn’t understand her. She likely memorizes the English lyrics.

On Tuesday, we had dinner at Vy’s Market, which was okay. Wednesday we really enjoyed dinner at Little Kitchen, which was located down a small ally.

This was our second time in Vietnam and it really is a lovely country with friendly people, beautiful landscapes, and delicious food. The cities in Central Vietnam were new to us and we highly recommend a visit.
