Let’s Take a Walk

We spent some time on our feet yesterday. After another delicious breakfast at our hotel, we went directly across the street to Kowloon Park.

One of the features of the park is the Hong Kong Avenue of Comic Stars. There are sculptures of various cartoon figures (out hotel is the building in the center of the photo).

After spending some time in the park, including visiting the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, we headed back to the promenade. We realized the promenade includes the Avenue of the Stars. The area also has a statue of Bruce Lee.

We took the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbor. Upon exiting the ferry we walked around Sheung Wan and Central neighborhoods. We went to the Western Market which mainly consisted of stalls selling bolts of fabric.

We walked for awhile and headed to Golden Bauhinia Square which is outside of the Hong Kong Convention Centre. The square was underwhelming, there was a small golden statue, no place to sit, and the flower market, that we read about, wasn’t there.

We took the ferry back to Kowloon. As my kids know, it is now an official trip since Jane was on a boat.

For dinner we went to Dim Sum Here. The dinner was okay. Truthfully, I’ve had better Dim Sum in San Francisco.

We walked back to the promenade for the 8:00 pm light show. We were able to find a cafe with an available table and we had drinks while waiting for the big show.

Jane was in Hong Kong in 1991 and again ten years ago when she was here on business. For me, this was my first visit. I enjoyed walking around and experiencing the place. Some of the food odors are tough to handle but overall I liked it here.

We did a little waking in our 2 1/2 days here. We walked 69,308 steps, equivalent to 27.2 miles. We will not be keeping up with this pace as it is unsustainable for a six week trip. Plus we want to relax a bit more.

I started reading the book Indelible City a couple of weeks ago. The book was very useful in understanding the current state of Hong Kong.

Before we left for this trip, we started watching EXPATS on Amazon Prime. The series takes place here and it was cool seeing some of the location sites. Unfortunately, we did not find Gus at the Temple Street Night Market.

We are now in the Singapore Airlines lounge as we wait for our Thai Airlines flight to Bangkok. After all that walking over the last couple of days, it’s nice to relax.

  1. Love Hong Kong! That number of steps sounds about right for that city, too. Definitely worth spending a bit more time there to really dig into the city, the night markets & the experiences there.
