It’s been nearly six months since I last posted to Traveling Walters. In that time, we’ve spent most of our days at home in beautiful Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, but that doesn’t mean we stayed put. We had a few great adventures outside of the First State.
Back in April, Jane and I drove up to Springfield, Massachusetts. On the way, we picked up Hannah in Stamford, Connecticut. Kyle flew into Hartford, and Lela picked him up. That Friday, we met up with Lela, Avery, and Kyle at Theodore’s Booze, Blues & BBQ in Springfield. Great food, drinks, and live music made for a fun evening.
Saturday morning, we visited Lela and Avery’s beautiful wedding venue before heading into Northampton, Massachusetts. There, we checked out a brewery, played a spirited game of Trivial Pursuit, and even played a little hide-and-seek from Lela.
That evening, Lela led the Passover Seder and did a fantastic job. We sang, laughed, and enjoyed plenty of wine. Avery found the afikomen. After dinner, seven of us packed into our RAV4 and drove to the MGM Casino. The casino was packed and we all lost money, but we had a good time.

From Springfield, Jane and I headed north to Montreal. On a walking tour, our guide shared how she traced her family lineage back to the original French settlers, she’s a 14th-generation Montréalais. After exploring the city, we continued on to Quebec City.

Quebec City greeted us with cold, wet weather and snow flurries. Despite that, we loved walking around Old Quebec. Our stay at the charming Le Clos Saint-Louis was a highlight, and we enjoyed cozy drinks at Alphonse nearby.

After a few days in QC, we drove south to Saratoga Springs, New York. We arrived in the late afternoon and explored the town before enjoying a delicious dinner at Cantina Mexican Restaurant.
The next day, we headed to Woodstock, New York, a first for both Jane and me. It was a sunny, beautiful day, perfect for walking around town. We had lunch at Catskill Mountain Pizza Co., and on the way out, we made a little detour to drive by Big Pink (of The Band fame).

We continued on to NYC and met up with the kids, as well as my niece Codie and her husband Alex. We had dinner in Astoria, followed by drinks across the street.

On Saturday, the ladies went wedding dress shopping while Kyle and I wandered around Central Park. That evening, we met up with Avery’s family to celebrate Lela and Avery’s engagement. Before dinner, both Lela and Avery spoke individually about their relationship, it was heartfelt and beautiful.
In early May, we made a road trip to Chicago for a stunning wedding. On the way, we stopped in Cleveland to visit family and friends. While there, we caught a Guardians game with our friends Bev and Kevin, the couple who were responsible for Jane and me meeting each other. In Chicago, we arrived a few days before the wedding and visited Jane’s friend Cindy in Barrington.

A good portion of the summer was spent on the water. This marked our fifth year with the Freedom Boat Club, we joined during the summer of Covid and we’re still enjoying it. It is always fun to take friends or family out for a day of boating.

We also took in a few live shows at the Freeman Stage in Selbyville, Delaware, where we saw Taj Mahal & Keb’ Mo’, Trombone Shorty, and ZZ Top. In Ocean City, Maryland, we hit the first day of the Oceans Calling Festival and caught performances by Lenny Kravitz, Green Day, O.A.R., Spin Doctors, and more.

The highlight of the summer? The weekend when all the kids came to visit. We spent a full day out on the boat, devoured crab cakes from Woody’s (the best on the Delaware coast), and went bar hopping in Dewey Beach.

At the end of August, we returned to NYC for the US Open, our third time in the last four years. Our friends Karen and Jeff joined us, and we had a blast. As an added bonus, we got to have dinner with Hannah and John.

Speaking of Hannah and John, the highlight of the year happened just this past Saturday night: they got engaged! We are absolutely thrilled for them.

Stay tuned for more updates, we’ll be hitting the road again very soon.
