Swinging in Bali

We arrived in Bali on Wednesday evening and took a Grab to The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. Upon check-in, we were thrilled to be upgraded to a spacious three-room, two-bath suite. With the extra bathroom available, I decided to make good use of it and hand-wash some laundry.

On Thursday, we embraced the slow pace of island life and spent the day as “beach slugs,” relaxing by the warm waters of the Badung Strait. For dinner, we kept it simple and dined at Ikan, the resort’s waterfront restaurant.

Friday greeted us with rain in the morning, but we made the most of it. We found undercover lounge chairs near the pool and enjoyed a slow morning until the skies cleared. Later, we embarked on an eight-mile bike ride along a scenic route through various resorts and monuments. That evening, we ventured next door for a delightful Mediterranean dinner.

The brunch at The Westin each morning was exceptional, featuring ten different stations with a wide variety of options. The hotel’s service throughout our stay was outstanding—quite possibly the best I’ve ever experienced.

Magnificent Crepes

Today, we spent the day exploring Bali with our tour guide, Adi, who picked us up at 8:30 a.m. Our first stop was a traditional Balinese home, followed by a visit to the lush Abiab Desa Rice Terrace. For lunch, we stopped at d’Alas, where Jane enjoyed an exhilarating swing experience overlooking the jungle.

After lunch, we visited Satria Agrowisata, a coffee and tea plantation where we sampled 13 varieties of their on-site creations. Next, we headed to the Tirta Empul Temple, a sacred Hindu site. Adi explained the key differences between Hindu and Buddhist temples, adding depth to our visit.

Our last stop was the stunning Tegenungan Waterfall. Along the way, we also visited Yani Art Gallery, known for intricate wood carvings, and Sari Amerta, a Batik art studio. We couldn’t resist buying a beautiful silk Batik painting as a souvenir.

Exploring Bali was an incredible experience, and with the rain setting the mood, it was a perfect day for swinging.

Now, as I write this, we’re relaxing in the Tujuwan Lounge at Bali Airport, awaiting our Singapore Airlines flights. First stop: Singapore, followed by a redeye to Delhi. Bali has been unforgettable, and we’re excited for the next chapter of our adventure!
