Our original plan was to visit friends in Mexico for a few days and then come back home. I decided that since we were already in Mexico, we should check out Mexico City. And since we needed to relax after exploring Mexico City, we should spend a few days in Puerto Vallarta.

We flew into PV on Sunday afternoon. Upon our arrival at the Marriott Puerto Vallarta, we were informed that we had an upgrade to the Ambassador Suite. This is the second best room on the property other than the Presidential Suite. It was great receiving the upgrade, especially since we were here for four nights. Being Marriott Titanium level truly paid off plus it gave us a room to watch the election results on Tuesday night.

We were slugs while in PV. We left the property only to walk a few blocks to the marina district where we had dinner Monday night at La Terrazza Di Roma. I also picked up a pizza there on Tuesday night and got a six pack of Modelo at a local bodega for dinner while we watched the results at our election headquarters.

The sand on the beach was very hot and I got a few blisters walking from the tiki-hut shaded lounge chairs to the water. The undertow was pretty strong so I was in the water briefly. When I got out, I noticed the red warning flags. To top it off, when we had lunch at the poolside bar, there were signs about crocodiles in the water (I would have never gone in if I saw that earlier).

After I messed up my feet on the hot sand, we spent the majority of our time at the pool and of course, we took advantage of the swim-up bar.
Our room had a hot tub on the corner balcony, which we used Wednesday night after coming back from dinner from Victor’s Restaurant (which was also at the marina).

About that election – the outcome was terrible. I fear that my children and their future children will be living under the ramifications from this election. While Kamala Harris wouldn’t have been my first choice, she was a viable candidate. On the other hand, I don’t see the appeal of Donald Trump. He is the most flawed person to ever occupy the Oval Office and is a narcissist and con man.
During Trump’s first term, the amount of hate increased to record levels. I am concerned that some of his supporters will feel emboldened to increase hate and we will see increases in antisemitism, racism, and sexism. I worry that the courts will overturn same-sex marriage and adoption.
One of the advantages of moving to Rehoboth Beach, DE from Bethesda, MD is that we won’t be living in the political bubble for the next four years. I will try to limit my news consumption since Trump makes me sick.
Two days after Trump’s first election win, I came home from work and told Jane we were going out of town during his inauguration. Instead, we went out of the country — to Aruba to get out of the DMV. This time, we won’t be in the country again and will miss the transition and inauguration as we will traveling around the world early December through mid-February.
Stay tuned for our next adventures.
